Damn, did the wURM just call TimAndVic a "Self-placed prophet"?
Thems big words for a dude who doesn't know the difference between "Their" and "There". Or how to spell "fair" for that matter?
Jesus Christ....how the fuck are you educated enough to be on this website yet have no clue as to what is going on?
Maybe TimAndVic's anger over said subject could be seen as a bit excessive, but it is not unwarranted by any means.
You're seriously defending Nike, Converse, Adidas and other big footwear giants who're mining the energy out of skateboarding and pumping it into investors' pockets?
I don't have the time nor energy to argue with a lug nut like yourself who refuses to bend an inch. But I'll make one quick point before bouncing.
Nike, MTV, Rob & Big, Sheckler, Element, etc pull in mad cross-over market skaters and introduces them to skateboarding. Mainstreamers who haven't a clue what real skateboarding is about. These commoners come into the industry and only support the big brands (Element, Alien, Plan B). Shop keepers, even the ones who know whats up, are forced to throw the little money they have to purchase hard goods toward these brands to give the retarded consumers what they want. The more this shit goes on, the more the shops become absolutely dependent on Nike, Element and Plan B to stay afloat. They become addicts. Ask any shop owner what he'd do if he lost his Nike account. They'd shudder at the thought.
These leeches basically bleed a small industry like skateboarding day and create an arid financial desert for other small brands, the ones who actually built this industry and provide it's soul and character.
Who fucking cares what Julien, Howard or Mariano used to wear, they ain't wearin them now are they? Hell fucking no, because they know the playing field has changed, my man. The stakes are high now and the big corp brands have launched a full fledged war campaign into our industry and they've had boundless success.
It's nice to see skaters getting hooked up properly, but at what cost to the rest of us? It's sad, but that's the way of the modern world isn't it?
And thanks to endless fools who support these brands and keep validating their involvement in our industry (LURM), they're not going anywhere any time soon.
As has been overly quoted a million times, I'll leave you with the wise words of Jason Jesse...."I love skateboarding so much I WANT it to die"
