When Rick Howard put Adidas Campus on his feet in Virtual Reality, Adidas was not paying him to wear them. Rick Howard chose to put them on his feet because he sought to break the mold of accepted skate footwear at the time and to be different from everyone else, not because Adidas was paying him to advertise them to other skateboarders. It's what you call "going against the grain", "thinking outside the box" or simply, "counter-culture" and skateboarders have been practicing this for years. There is a huge difference between choosing something on your own accord and being paid to sell a product. Would you like more? -timandvic
